Open Projects

Veterans to Energy Careers is an opportunity for student veterans pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in STEM to obtain relevant work experience through research and development projects within the Department of the Navy. 

 All projects provide program participants with a monthly stipend based on location, a dedicated career coach, and relevant professional experience for preparation for careers within the Department of Defense.


Requirements:

  • Candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

    • U.S. citizenship

    • DoD Veterans or Reservist/National Guard status

    • Full-time student

    • Minimum 3.0 GPA

    • Minimum one-year commitment

    • Commitment of at least 10 hours and up to 20 hours per week

    • Up to 40 hours per week during the summer

    • Eligibility for Secret Clearance

    • Ability to pass a drug test (Please note that recreational drugs and CBD use are not permitted on DOD facilities, even in states where this is legal).

 

Other considerations:

This program is not a grant, and continued participation is considered at the end of every semester based on performance during the previous semester. Scheduling will be worked out between the program participant and the Principle Investigator after each semester.

 Program participants will be given the opportunity for funded travel to conferences/ events that align with project goals.  VTEC will pay for all reasonable expenses.  Each trip must be pre-approved by VTEC and your Principle Investigator. You will be expected to write up a short review of the travel.
