Sustainability Energy Intern Modular Carport for Resilient Charging Operations

Title: Sustainable Energy Intern

Location: EXWC/NAVFAC, Port Hueneme

Duration: Year Round

Start Date: May 2024

Pay: $30/hr

Project Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join our team and contribute to our "Optimized Electric Vehicle Charging Option" project as part of the NextSTEP initiative. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sustainable energy, electric vehicles, and renewable technologies. You will work closely with the project manager and a cross-functional team of engineers to support the research, development, and testing of innovative electric vehicle charging solutions.

Project Background

The "Optimized Electric Vehicle Charging Option" project is aimed at identifying and implementing advanced electric vehicle charging technologies for high-use and heavy-duty vehicles within the Navy. We are seeking versatile electrical connections to standard 208/220 VAC building panels and integrated demand management features to mitigate electrical demand spikes. Our objective is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of electric vehicle charging while minimizing operational costs and environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research on electric vehicle charging technologies, renewable energy integration, and demand management systems. Analyze industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

  • Project Support: Assist the project manager and engineers in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of electric vehicle charging solutions. Participate in project meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions.

  • Data Collection: Collect and analyze data related to electrical demand, charging patterns, and system performance. Use this data to assess the feasibility and performance of the selected charging options.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of research findings, project progress, and experimental data. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings to the team.

Education and Learning Opportunities

This internship is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing degrees in electrical, industrial, or mechanical engineering disciplines. We are also seeking candidates with knowledge in engineering economics and cost-benefit analysis. As an intern, you will have the chance to collaborate with experts in the field and gain valuable insights into sustainable energy solutions and electric vehicle technologies.
