Cyber Security and Energy Efficiency Research


Overview: The mission of the project is to develop a framework that enables the proper and efficient evaluation of technologies for securing SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) networks for various industrial government applications, including the electric grid. These networks allow digital input from computing components that might be thousands of miles away to control physical assets (like motors, actuators, pumps, etc.) The problem is that the unprotected nature, interconnected paradigm, and global footprint of SCADA networks makes them extremely vulnerable to security threats and cyber-attacks.

Responsibilities: Interns will help develop requirements, designs, case studies, technologies, and ultimately evaluate solutions that support secure and energy efficient systems. This work will include doing research on new topics as well as learning new tools/programming languages to develop software applications.

Considered Major(s): Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields

Qualifications: Basic programming experience and willing to learn new skills
