Renewable Energy And Microgrid Project


Overview: NAVFAC EXWC is tasked with evaluating and implementing new renewable energy technologies for the Navy.  Projects include enhancing energy generation, cutting emerging energy technology and renewables, energy storage, management, efficiency and information dominance at naval facilities while utilizing innovative pre-commercial and/or nascent technologies/approaches and reducing cost and increasing energy security. We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineering student to support a variety of tasks for our renewable projects.

Responsibilities: Assist with planning documents, system requirements, electrical design studies, design reviews, and drawing of electrical one-line diagrams. Interns majoring in electrical engineering are desired. The intern will have the opportunity to learn power systems modeling software such as ETAP, SKM, and Matlab Simulink. They will utilize the software to draft simple electrical one line diagrams to model renewable energy systems on micro-grids and building loads. They will learn how to utilize COTS power system software to analyze power flow, flash arc, and short circuit conditions on the utility connection. Other tasks include assisting with utility interconnect agreements, studying the capabilities of COTS power system software, and hands on exposure to design, testing of renewable energy hardware, and programming PLC controllers.
