HVAC Energy Reduction

Objective: Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) represents upwards of 50% of the energy usage in facilities. 80% of all the energy consumption in the HVAC is attributed to the compressor and its design. SolX Energy, an international company, has designed a solar assisted HVAC system that has shown potential to reduce the energy usage of HVAC anywhere from 30-75%. In this project, we will install the system at a Marine base, develop a real time measurement solution, and create an accurate model to predict performance.

Qualifications: B.S. or M.S. (preferred) Mechanical Engineering, completed coursework or working knowledge of the following:
HVAC Systems
Solar Power Systems
Thermal-dynamics
Heat Transfer
Fluid Mechanics
Software/programming

Interest in HVAC Systems, ability to model HVAC systems or learn Matlab/Simululink Experience, go-getter
